Our goal is to fight wine waste one box at a time and here's how...

As dedicated wine drinkers, we find it so frustrating to buy a nice bottle of wine, drink a couple of glasses with dinner, and then have wine turn before we can get back to finish the bottle. It’s wasteful and expensive to have to pour an unfinished and turned-bad bottle down the drain. We had to find a new solution.

At Vertical Wine Collective, we partner with forward-thinking producers of high-quality, eco-friendly boxed and canned wines.

Current producers include Really Good Boxed Wine, Nomadica, Tablas Creek Vineyard, Communal Brands, Sandy Giovese, Juliet, Ami Ami, Quadrum Wines, and many others!

Boxes and cans are better for the environment

‣ Unfortunately, only about 30% of glass bottles are recycled, resulting in over 7 million tons ending up in landfills annually. And only about 30% of glass bottles are recycled which means that more than seven million tons of empty bottles end up in landfills.

‣ Plus, you get four bottles in one box. The airtight bag inside the box collapses as you pour, keeping the remaining wine fresh for weeks. No waste when you have a busy week.

Carbon emissions

‣ Did you know that glass bottles account for 29% of the total carbon footprint in the retail wine industry? Corrugated boxes contribute 6%. Boxes are 30% lighter, ship in smaller packages, and require less energy to produce, releasing fewer CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

‣ A study produced by the California Sustainable Wine Growing Alliance found that boxed wine has 84% lower carbon emissions than traditional glass bottles. That’s the kind of statistic we like to see!

Water & energy consumption

‣ Glass bottles require a ton of heat, energy, and natural resources to make. They also melt raw materials, releasing gas pollutants into the atmosphere. Boxes require fewer raw materials than glass bottle production, while also having lower water and energy consumption.

‣ Big heavy bottles do not mean better wine. They are meant to impress. But is releasing more CO2 into the atmosphere impressive? Not in our book.

‣ Boxed wine is 30% lighter to ship, requires smaller packaging and less energy to produce, which means releasing way fewer CO2 emissions.
